3-year-old loves it, but each page goes fairly quicklyThis is a book with “maze” style images and paths, but only one right way to go. It helps build confidence with the pencil without being overly challenging or frustrating. Especially for 2 year olds, it’s a great alternative to explaining the concept of a maze.I bought this for my 3-year-old daughter. She loves this book for multiple reasons: the pictures are fun and exciting (she wants to help the bunny find his friend, etc.), the illustration on the front attracts her to the workbook before she even starts (I want to do my puppy workbook), and the activities progress so that she doesn’t even realize that the lines to draw within are getting smaller or the shapes more complex. She will flip through up to 10 or more pages without tiring many times. Two down sides: (1) For a young child, it is hard to keep the book open. I have to teach her to press down on the page and crease it to help it stay open. There are no pull out perforations, so that isn’t an easy option either. (Although generally I like to keep workbook pages in the book to avoid scattering. My six-year-old has no problem creasing the pages to keep them open, but it is a hassle if I want to walk away from the 3 year old while she is working on her book. (And each page goes relatively quickly, so it’s not like it’s an every 5 minute kind of thing!)(2) The more colorful illustrations are on the front of the page. The back has a review sort of page that is more just a geometrical shape type of thing. These are less engaging for my children. As a side note, I don’t mind that she gets through each page quickly — at her age, I actually think the continual sense of accomplishment helps to hold her attention. After every page she likes to show off the work she has done before moving on. 🙂

Great Book For Learning To WriteThe Kumon series of books works by empowering children to succeed on their own. The books get successively more difficult as they build upon skills learned from the previous pages, so that by the end of the book the child has a sense of accomplishment and be ready to move on to the next level. The instructor is more of a mentor or coach than a teacher in a classroom. The Amazing Tracing book is designed to help develop pre-writing skills. The child is asked to trace along paths, either zig-zags, curves, swirls, lines, loops, semi-circles, overlaps, or a combination of all the above and it’s put together in a manner that is very engaging with fun illustrations, mazes, and object outlines. My 3 year old started at the first page with a simple zigzag and is about half way through. The tracing path starts out wide and gets narrower as you go along. By the end of the book, it gets more complex, tracing the outline of a whirling, swirling roller coaster and the mythical creature “Pegasus.”One tip: If you have more than one child, make copies of the pages for your children to trace instead of in the book itself. That way you can make as many copies as you need, especially if your child likes one in particular and wants to do the same one again and again.Highly recommended workbook for developing pre-writing skills!

Great PracticeI’m very happy with this book and I’m glad I found it. The pages are thick and the spacing for items is great for the little ones. The progression of the activities make sense and the different formats keep my little one interested.I wanted to be able to use each page more than once or twice for practice, so I took it apart, hole punched the top and added binder rings. With the use of a plastic sleeve and a dry erase marker each page can be used over and over again.

Helpful Tip For Using This BookI love the Kumon books. I used them with my older son. Now I’m homeschooling and using these to help my younger son with learning strokes. The tracing books are great but move at a pretty fast clip. And with a pencil you can only do them once. Sometimes the jumps in skills between levels were such that I has to put the book way for a couple months and try again when my child was more mature. However, I finally got smart! I now tear out the sheets and put them in clear sheet protectors and use a single binder ring to organize. I have my child use a dry erase marker and wipe them clean when we are done with the lesson. My child can then practice each page over and over until he masters it. And the pens are easier for little hands to use. LOVE. I wish I had done this with my first son. Worth the extra effort for sure. The colorful pages are fun and engaging. My youngest asks to do these worksheets now that I do them this way.

My son wasn’t that great at holding his pencil and doesn’t really enjoy coloring but LOVES this book. I got this for his 4 year old birthday and he couldn’t get enough of it. He holds his pencil much better now since he had to have control to do the tracing. He finished this fairly quickly so I bought him 3 different Kumon books, all were a hit.

it’s a good time killer when they are waiting for their food …I’m not a fan of kids playing with electronics 24/7…..so instead of taking out a tablet or phone for my kids to play with when they are at a restaurant, I give these kumon books to him to play and work through when we eat out…..it’s a good time killer when they are waiting for their food to come or when they finished their food but the “boring chatty adults aren’t done with their meals or conversation”……..

Wonderful for surprisingly young agesFantastic exercises and engaging pictures. Our 3-year-old will work through 5-15 pages per night. Every night he starts one or two pages after where he started the previous night so there’s plenty of overlap and it doesn’t at all ruin the pictures to have been drawn on. We can see definite improvements in his grip and ability to stay in the lines.

Kumon books are fantastic! We are huge fans of all Kumon books. The tracing book is great because it isn’t boring dots that my son would completely ignore, but they are lovely pictures that we make stories out of. For example, a trail through a forest or a railroad track with various destinations. We make stories up as he traces along the path about the places we go. It is the only way I can get him to willingly hold a pencil to work on his delayed fine motor skills.

Great for small motor work and pencil therapy! My son loves these! Excellent for work on small motor skills, as well as hand eye coordination. Perfect to work on pencil grip with, and fun so the child doesn’t know we are doing therapy

Great workbook for kids. This is a great workbook for my son, it keeps him busy and he loves working on it. He spends his time working to keep his lines neat. At first he just colored all over the pages, but with some work he started to understand what he was supposed to do and now he takes his time with it and is doing great.

So fun for your kids!My daughter loves the Kumon workbooks. They are a fun way to learn basic skills. I recommend starting with the tracing book, as recommended on the back of the workbooks. We accidentally started with mazes, then my daughter was a little confused about the right way to trace. She didn’t want to touch the line, but go between lines, like you do when doing a maze.

Teaches Vital SkillsI am a long-time Kumon customer, currently teaching my third child on the system. We completed this book after the first tracing book. It’s a nice continuation, and builds on the skills learned from the first one. I recommend completing this one, then starting the Coloring book and the rest of the first books in each category.

I laminate the best looking mazes to use with washable markersMy daughter LOVES mazes and tracing activities. This would get a 5 star review if only based on her opinion. As her parent, I wish the page size was more “standard”. I laminate the best looking mazes to use with washable markers, but the sheets have to be significantly trimmed. They are also not perforated, unfortunately.

Great book for 2-4 year olds learning to drawMy grandchildren (boy and girl age 4-1/2) loved the tracing book (they call it the “kitty” book); now they are equally enthusiastic about the “doggie” book. They have a number of Kumon books and like them all but these are their favorites. I like them because they have in addition to tracing, some mazes and very cute characters to draw.

Could really use some page perforationI imagine there are three-year-olds in the world that can be handed a workbook full of colorful illustrations and resist the temptation to scribble all over every page, but my son is not one of them. I have to remove these workbook pages to give him one at a time or chaos is the inevitable result. Unfortunately, the pages are not perforated in the least, and it is easy to rip a page trying to remove it. I bought a rotary perforator to help with this problem, but it would be far better if they incorporated this into the design – at least for the workbooks intended for younger children.Other than that, this workbook (and My First Book Of Tracing) have really, really helped my son develop pencil skills. I do recommend the material. If your child is a bit over-inclined to reacting to immediate stimuli without thinking, like mine is, just order a rotary perforator along with it. Here’s the one I got – so far it’s working well:

Great preschool pencil skills workbook! The Kumon My Book of Amazing Tracing is a great beginning preschool workbook designed to continue practicing pencil skills and further develop fine motor control. This book is a sequel to the Kumon My First Book of Tracing. Fine motor control development is very important in handwriting and I really how this book can be used with kids as young as two years old. The workbook requires very little instruction. Ages: The two to four years old age range is very appropriate for this workbook. I would definitely recommend starting this workbook at two years old if your child shows a lot of interest in scribbling, otherwise starting at two and a half to three years old would be fine. Pencil skills are always good practice even for a four year old. Multiple Children: A workbook is needed for each child. I would not recommend photocopying for multiple children since there is so much color and you would probably spend more in ink for copies than you would just buying another book. I know my kids are sometimes so interested in a workbook that they want to keep on going, so I would hate to lose their interest and momentum because I need to make more copies.

My kids loved it so much!My kids didn’t know what tracing was or that it even existed so I thought it would be a good idea to get them this book. Turns out they love it! It is filled with lovely cute pictures that kids gravitate to and it helps my kids define their motor skills. They books offer a fun way to learn the basic skills of art and they just get really into it and it’s great. The drawings included in the book contains objects of all kinds and my kids have a blast doing this and it keeps them busy. When they do put the book down in search of something else that’s fun, they always go to that bouncing deer, another product I bought for them on Amazon. It’s great because the kids have fun bouncing around the house and when they get tired, I offer them this book to work or they just take a nap. I highly recommend this!

A new early tracing bookI loved the original Kumon tracing book and I love the My Book of Amazing Tracing. This book is a great introduction for kids learning how to use a pencil. Son loves it!The media could not be loaded.
This was perfect for my 3.5 year old who hasn’t started any sort of preschool program. Pages appear to increase in difficulty. There’s also a few pages that begin to introduce letters, but only a few (the ones pictured are the only pages with letters in the entire book). I would’ve liked more of these, but I bought it with the understanding that letter tracing was not the objective of this book. Still, my son really enjoys it and I think it’s a fun way to practice tracing. I cut the pages out of the book (tore off the cover and spine first to make it easier) and then stuck each page in a page protector so that my son could use a dry erase maker. This way, he can reuse the pages. The folder I used has page protectors attached so it still feels like a workbook (got it at Daiso for $1.50)

RecommendedI got this book for my twin daughters who just turned 4 and it was great success. Although they go to the nursery their pencil skills were not quite well developed, so I bought this book to do some home work with them. It went very smoothly. I find it easier to remove pages and give them one by one, rather than put the whole book on the table. Particularly as I have two girls and limited table space. The book starts with very easy tasks and continues to quite elaborate patterns. I am not sure that 2yo would be able to follow them, but I think close to 3 years is about right age. My girls would normally do 4 pages in one go and by the end of the second book it takes them about 15 minutes to complete.Overall I strongly recommend this book as well as others from this series.

Great writing foundation!!!What we love about the Kumon books – the methodical gentle approach with enough instructions for parents and ample motivation for little ones. Becoz the exercises, increase in complexity gradually, little ones totally look forward to these books. The book provides ample tracing opportunity with the paths getting narrower and pencil control becoming better. We are using the mazes from Kumon also in tandem and it makes a powerful combination for writing. My little one never sleeps without doing some pages and at times i have to wrestle it out of his hands.
