A Good Beginning GuideMy 4 year old knows what sounds each letter makes and he knows how to write them all. This was at first a big review of both of those things. Near the very end of the book is when they start learning how to write words and i think this is a good way to begin a child to do it, but don’t solely go from this book. Teach sounds separately as well. It is a good book regardless and if you use it as extra “homework” sheets, then it is right on! There is also a certificate you can use to get your child excited about completing the book. I didn’t use this when I taught my older son, but it would have been a nice addition to his curriculum as well.

Kinder Teacher Recommends!I bought this book along with the math version to help keep my 4 year-old’s skills sharp over the summer. I have found the Kumon line to be very sequential in its practice, and the usage of bright colors and starting points is helpful for my child. This book focuses specifically on the proper formation of letters (hence, the using of starting points and arrows), includes many ABC dot-to-dots for sequencing, and has a short section of consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) word practice and blending at the end. Another great book from Kumon, that this Kindergarten teacher recommends!

Great verbal assessment prior to kindergarten! The Kumon Are You Ready for Kindergarten Verbal Skills is a great workbook to review writing the uppercase and lowercase letters in alphabetical order, practice dot-to-dot skills, write consonant-vowel-consonant words (CVC) and practice rhyming. This workbook is a really great way to see if your child is ready verbally for kindergarten. Do keep in mind that this is a simple workbook to test for kindergarten readiness – it is not a kindergarten curriculum. Ages: Use this book with preschool children. Multiple Children: A workbook is needed for each child.

Great learning booksOur son who’s 4 loves these workbooks. I bought these for him to work through during the summer to keep his brain sharp. I will have to buy more bc he has already went through them and he has 2 more weeks of school.

Great for letter IDThis is great for letter identification/formation and beginning sound blending. I wish it had more sound blending activities. My 3 year old daughter finished it in no time and loved it.

Its okMy little gril is 4 and advanced for her age, this book bores her PLUS it came with all sorts of writting in it. I spent more than an hour erasing some one elses work. The description said it had a few marks BUT NO, the entire book except for the last four pages was written in and some with marker. Augh. If your kid is advanced, like mine- this is not the book.

they are great for repeating a skill and masteringMy little one loves these books. they are great for repeating a skill and mastering. just a few minutes a day and I have to tell her time to stop. she wants to keep going, but they really need the 10 minute a day shorter sessions with these books.

  9. SF_Books

It is a good starter for kidsIt is a good starter for kids, however I wish there were more space or lines for the kids to practice writing the letters.

  10. Ann

Nice book if your child loves this kind of workbooksNice book if your child loves this kind of workbooks. There is a lot of repetition as with all Kumon books, but this one is not studying, but for reviewing what the child knows already.

Four StarsThese book from kumon are good but eh can be compared to any other book, nothing really special

  12. SouthFLFan

Not what I expected! The book arrived on time and in new condition. The content of the book is what I was disappointed with. It needs more verball areas to be covered if you want to have a kid ready for kinder. Ex: Using more rhyming word games or sheets.

  13. SuperMom

It’s okayNice book, but too easy for 4-5 yr olds and not that many exercises for the kids to practice. My son went thru abuot10 pages in less than 5minutes. He is not a pro in numbers – he is just learning.

  14. Jay Smith

Awesome book, but for it really work you have …Awesome book, but for it really work you have to consistently do it with child. I recommend just going to Kumon 🙂

Four year old loves this bookMy four year old loves this book! The letter tracing and count by alphabet pictures were her favorites. The bright colors and pictures kept her engaged. The paper is high quality thick paper that is easy to erase. From an educational perspective, I like how the book is scaffolded to break learning down into steps that gradually increase in difficulty. Some other workbooks I have seen (such as Mead) don’t do such a good job with this.

  26. stewi

My kid loves this bookIt is worth getting if your kid is getting interested in books (not just chewing them, but reading too). I found it largely redundant, but that is what makes it so good for children to remember and follow. Recommending it to everyone I know (who has children that age, of course)!

  27. Shayan Wasim

Great workbookThis is a great beginner book. The instructions are just like the separate pages given at Kumon. It comes with a certificate at the end for the child. Not many pages available but u can erase and reuse for more practice.
