Great!Great practice book for my child!

  2. Lala

Best math workbook!I purchased all three books on 2nd grade math (Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems) for my daughter when she was at her summer break before entering 2nd grade. We practiced almost every day and by the time she started her classes at school she knew how to add and subtract 3-digit numbers with confidence. These work books are excellent alternative to expensive Kumon classes. It’s mid October and we are almost done with the second grade Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems. She scored above average at her school as a result whereas before she couldn’t add even 1-digit numbers without using her fingers. I’m very satisfied with her progress within such a short period of time. Will continue buying these books.Highly recommended!

Great summer learning book!Great book! Summer is so difficult for parents to keep learning involved with summer activities. I have twin boys going from 2nd to 3rd. I found these books as an alternative to the course. The kumon course was way to expensive. We started at grade 2 so they can master addition before attempting multiplication. They are easy but it gets harder as they advance. I have them do it timed and after I check their work. And parent don’t worry about having to check their work, there is an answer key in the back. Great book! Looking forward to buying the set.

we have both, addition and subtraction! will buy more!!i bought it for my son who needed some additional work on subtraction and addition..we do 2 pages every night besides the regular home work..of course at first he didn’t want to do anything but then got used to it and better.. AND the best thing: just before christmas he came home from school with a certificate saying “MOST IMPROVED IN MATH”!!! i can only say its because of this!!! we are a little ahead of the other kids now as he came home one day and said “mummy we just started the 3 digit subtraction in school – but i already know how this works because of the books!”.. and so we were ahead almost 6 weeks from the other kids..i will buy more in the future, they are great workbooks and the kids will love them!!

Improve calculation speedA lot of practice questions inside of the book. Keep kids practicing and improve the calcution speed.

  6. Mom of 4

Just what I wantedThis is exactly what I needed for my granddaughter for the summer. Need to keep her bust in the summer too.

  7. MK

Great buy!Loving this so far. Helps the kids learn/ memorize sums. They don’t have to think about the answers- almost spontaneous.I also use it to help with my math skills due to my concussion – cognitive rehab..

  8. Mountain Man

A tremendous help with Alzheimer’s.I purchased these to help my mother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. She was forgetting to lock her doors at night and was also leaving the cook stove and water running. After a month or so of one hour daily lessons she regained the ability to keep herself safe. I don’t think it matters if they get the answers right or not it’s the action of doing the lessons that helps get things running again. I don’t know how long this will help but for now it’s been remarkable.

  9. niyasmom

Great resourceBrought this to keep my 7 yr old up to par over the summer between 1st and 2nd grade. The few few pages were a breeze and simple math that fingers could be used to count. Towards the middle it moved to double digit math. And by the end carrying over was included.

  10. Neerja Ginotra

Good book for second grader to practice addition skills.Book has a lot of practice for 2 digit addition.

  11. snarkysnail

For a parent who doesn’t want to do math with their childI know it sounds awful, but I don’t want to do math with my child. I need to do dishes and set up dinner, so this is great because my kids can do this by themselves. My 5 year old may get stuck on a new sheet, but after doing a problem or two with him, he basically can do the next 5-8 pages himself. I feel like a great mom because my kids are practicing their math and I get dinner ready. win, win

  12. Sue Mulford

She doesn’t like story problemsI was impress with t he quality of the books I ordered. I have a daughter with Down Syndrome and she loves 2nd 3rd grade math. Books are getting harder to find that she enjoys. She doesn’t like story problems. These were great. thanks

It is a great way to enhance your child’s learningWe started out using Grade 2 material as the actual Kumon program measures and takes a similar approach. It ensures the child has full mastery of the basics. Our son motored through this quickly though given it is self paced. In the course of a year he has moved from Grade 2 to Grade 5. It is a great way to enhance your child’s learning.

  14. Mommy

Great to master secind grade additionThese are great! They build up as you gain knowledge and increasein difficulty. They allow students to master something before they move on. This book isnt terribly exciting but its definitely valuable in our homeschool classroom. Thank you kumon

  15. Michelle

Great Books for KidsWe love Kumon. My kids work on these work books all the time. We keep them stocked for the days they are bored.

  16. Nia_921

We Love KumonLove Kumon workbooks – my 6 year old just finished first grade and decided to keep his math fresh as well as prep him for the next grade. He does them well, 2 pages a day. The work progresses just right for him.

Great for teaching addition! We had our daughter do this over the summer before grade 2. She fought it all the way, but i promised her that if she did it, school would be easy in the fall! Guess what! She is breezing though. Addition anyway! We are on subtraction, two pages a night!

  18. Lilirock17

Like all Kumon BooksLike all Kumon Books, they do a great job at targeting an area and allows the kids to fully master the concept.

  19. Patricia L.

Perfect!Perfect for keeping your child’s skills up over the summer or when on break. The additional work helps them to sharpen their skills as well. I believe the book is right on target with what our child is learning in class at the moment.

Great resourceMy 1st grader performs at a higher level than her peers, and the homework she gets from school takes her less than 5 minutes to complete. I use the Kumon workbooks to give her the extra practice and challenge she needs.

  23. Shannon

MUST GET!The Kumon series is wonderful. Each book comes with a certificate at the end that I present to my son an we hand up. Each book starts very simple and helps the child gain the concepts. Wonderful!

  25. proud parent

great bookIt’s a great kumon book that teaches step by step approach to adding. parental guidance is needed when ti comes to re-gruouping but it also gives tips to maximize on math skills

  26. Gina

Fun!It is nice to get a book that is listed a certain way and when you get it, it is exactly what you ordered. Thank you

  27. Susan K. Schoonover

Nothing SpecialAs advertised this book is all addition with problems presented both horizontally and vertically. Fairly early in the book regrouping (or carrying as we called it in the old days)is introduced but not in a particularly clear or helpful manner. Worksheets such as the ones in this book could easily be created by a teacher or parent or downloaded for free from several internet sites though this Kumon offering does have the convenience of having the pages all together in workbook format.

  28. Guerrero Amarillo

Ugh. These are agonizingly boring and lack context.I really enjoyed a lot of the Kumon books for little kids, such as their books on drawing, cutting, pasting, and mazes. But my son is 7 years old now, and the workbooks have really lost their sizzle. This book just has page after page of math problems. There’s no context, no fun story, no attempt at putting the problems into an applied setting. Study after study has shown that drilling-style homework is basically useless at this age level (Google “too much homework”). There is some tiny support for age-appropriate reading and for simple math practice, so I assume that’s why these types of math worksheets are still out there. However, anything that is excessive or that sucks the fun out of learning immediately negates any tiny benefit that might otherwise arise, and these worksheets would definitely fall into the fun-sucking category. They are nothing but rote repetition, and the world would be better off without them. If you have a child who might like to do some things like this for fun (or in place of similarly agonizing homework sheets they get from school), then I would try something else. If you have electronic gizmos, I would try some of the math apps, like Rocket Math, Hungry Fish, or Math Evolve. If you specifically want workbooks, try “Mathematical Reasoning” by Brumbaugh & Brumbaugh. “Math Analogies” by Brumbaugh can also be fun. And we really enjoy “Balance Math and More” by Femiano & Slyter. These are still workbook pages, so there is still a drilling element. But these other workbooks make the kids use their noggins, include story problems and applied situations, and are just generally more fun. You could also do a google search for “chisenbop,” which is a finger counting method that will get you all the way up to 99. That will make it easier for kids to add on their fingers, and it’s also the same exact process that is used with an abacus. It’s a really fun “cheat” that doesn’t actually cheat at all, and it may help kids who are struggling. Actively adding doesn’t really take much more time than memorizing addition facts, so, personally, I’m in favor of giving kids the tools they need to jump through the hoops at school and then just being patient with them.

Kumon Method is great! One of my friend recommended Kumon Method to us. This is the first Kumon book we bought for our son. Each workbook is designed to help kids master a specific math skill in a step-by-step manner. Thanks to the logical progression and plenty of repetition in this book, my son is able to grasp grade 2 addition. After using this book for only 2 months, I could see my son’s math is improving. His ranking in Beestar has moved up significantly (a very useful website beestar.org). He became more confident in math, especially in addition.

  68. GDSouza

Kumon momI needed extra math and reading/writing practice for my kids in 3rd and 1st grade. These books are easy to understand, very systematic and kids love it. we take them along in the car even for short drives. It keeps the kids busy in the back seat. would recommend these to any parent that would like their child to excel academically. who doesn’t?? I’ve purhased about a dozen plus Kumon books from amazon already and intend to purchase many more.

  69. Jerry

Extremely boring and dry.Page after page of nothing but problems. No pictures, math games or anything else different. My daughter loves math but was completely uninterested in doing this book. I was also uninterested. I’m also annoyed that Kumon still won’t perforate their workbook pages. There are so many more engaging and fun math workbooks out there. I do not recommend this one.

  81. Anna

Just some addition sentenceThere are only some addition senteces, no method, no others. Not very goods.

  82. Saima Naeem

Practice makes perfectI love the repetition in this book, as it helps the child get enough practice to master the subject. Now I know my child can easily do 2 digit addition without any hesitation.

  83. lilly

Learning by roteI love these books because they’re neat, well-structured, clean and have no silly animal pictures (very distracting and cause confusion). I find other books too cluttered with silly pictures of “cute” animals. I often hear parents moan about the repetitive nature of the books. Don’t they get it? That, is the whole point of the programme. The children need to do the sums over and over again until they attain mental recall of basic sums making no mistakes (score 100%). It’s progressive, starting with the basics before moving on to harder tasks. We use these books to complement other applied Maths books.

  84. Cactus Green

esta serie de libros es una acierto seguroNunca nos decepcionan, con un poco de practica y ayuda, los niños son capaces de realizar toda la serie de libros sólos 😉 Además les gusta ver como sin ayuda van progresando

A good math book! Not bad at all!

  91. Douglas

Excelente!

  92. Balatoninyar

FantasticBuilt up logically from the basics to more complicated tasks.I have two kids in primary. One week they doing addition, next week substraction, third week multiplying and dividing and they are not even able to count to ten.So I thought to myself if the school is not able to teach them thematically, logically built on the basics I will have to do it myself.Kumon books are SUPERly organised.

  93. MommaB

… grade 2 and the progression of difficulty is very good. Great for practiceThe questions are very appropriate for grade 2 and the progression of difficulty is very good. Great for practice. Would recommend this workbook. Very happy with it.

GoodReally helpful to support my children with their maths – my only complaint is that all the instruction refers to the American grading system so had to buy both books to work out which one was relevant at KS1

Great book for kidsThis book is ideal to help young learners to improve with addition in maths. My son enjoyed using this book to help him understand addition in a simple and easy to understand way. kumon produces good books that are both educational and fun for kids. I highly recommend them.

  98. N. Chouhan

A good follow on book from Grade 1Following the Grade 1 Addition, i would recommend this book. It has a good content of addition but there is tendancy to repeat the sums. As you progress, the book is more of a chore than fun learning.

Money wasteI think the focus of this workbook is just “practice”. instead of spending money on this workbook, take a paper and write addition exercises for your child. There is no science behind how the addition exercises provided in this book. Too expensive for the value it gives you.
