Best math workbook!I purchased all three books on 2nd grade math (Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems) for my daughter when she was at her summer break before entering 2nd grade. We practiced almost every day and by the time she started her classes at school she knew how to add and subtract 3-digit numbers with confidence. These work books are excellent alternative to expensive Kumon classes. It’s mid October and we are almost done with the second grade Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems. She scored above average at her school as a result whereas before she couldn’t add even 1-digit numbers without using her fingers. I’m very satisfied with her progress within such a short period of time. Will continue buying these books.Highly recommended!

Definitely worth it, though not self contained…Summary: A great resource to help teach your kids subtraction, but it’s strictly a book of exercises, drills, etc. No replacement for one on one teaching. We have our first grader working on this – she does one page each night along with her regular homework. The first dozen or so pages were subtraction review. Then it starts to get tougher. For example, 43-17 = 26 where you have to carry the tens. She was having some trouble, but after slowly walking her through a few problems she picked it up right away.In terms of skill level it’s fairly well correlated to what the public schools target as the grade level outcomes – this is clearly a year advanced of what her school is teaching at first grade level, but a half year head start can’t be bad and it certainly wasn’t beyond her capabilities. The repetitive nature of the exercises in this book really helps. We highly recommend it!If you’ve found this review helpful or have questions/comments, please let us know!

what a great workbook!!!i bought it for my son who needed some additional work on subtraction and addition..we do 2 pages every night besides the regular home work..of course at first he didn’t want to do anything but then got used to it and better.. AND the best thing: just before christmas he came home from school with a certificate saying “MOST IMPROVED IN MATH”!!! i can only say its because of this!!! we are a little ahead of the other kids now as he came home one day and said “mummy we just started the 3 digit subtraction in school – but i already know how this works because of the books!”.. and so we were ahead almost 6 weeks from the other kids..i will buy more in the future, they are great workbooks and the kids will love them!!

Good practiceMy 7 yo daughter is more confident doing subtraction at school after starting this workbook. It helps her concentrate better while doing math homework. At first, she could only do 3 problems at a time without looking around and getting up from her chair. We love Kumon!Love Kumon workbooks – my 6 year old just finished first grade and decided to keep his math fresh as well as prep him for the next grade. He does them well, 2 pages a day. The work progresses just right for him.

My daughter is moving right alongShe was beginning to say and believe she is just “bad at match”. She shouldn’t be; she showed at lot of aptitude when she was 3. But 20-30 minutes a night with this and she is progressing very rapidly. Multiplication is next!

Great for extra practiceMy kindergartener and my 2nd grader uses these books all summer long. Unfortunately, grade school is pretty competitive, and to keep up their skills over the summer I get them these books to practice what they learned over the school year.

Grade 2 SubtractionThe Kumon method uses repitition of basic skills, to allow them to gain confidence in the key areas of the maths curriculum. As such, they are not the only workbook you will need, but they do give plenty of practice in key areas. This workbook takes your child from simple subtraction (eg 9 – 5 =) right up until three digit subtraction and subtraction of hundreds and thousands. There is a Grade 2 level book in both subtraction and addition and practice of these basic, but so important skills, will give your child confidence and improve their maths ability in many other areas of the curriculum, such as problem solving and mental maths. If your child is struggling with subtraction, then completing just one page per day will be a painless way of giving them lots of practice.

  63. allrandom32

good worksheetsFor anyone familiar with the kumon system. This is a good workbook to help reinforce basic subtraction. The only downer is the quantity of questions in the workbook – the standard kumon sets contain many more questions.

  64. Patricia L.

PerfectPerfect for keeping your child’s skills up over the summer or when on break. The additional work helps them to sharpen their skills as well. I believe the book is right on target with what our child is learning in class at the moment.

  65. Glenda

Excellent enrichment!I purchased these books when my 2nd grader brought home a few lower test scores (in math and reading). I had looked into sending her to Kumon, but the cost was very high. I thought I’d try the books first. Well, in just 4-5 weeks she has brought her grades up to all A’s!! This books provide excellent exercises that can be used in conjunction with her school work. Her goal now, is to get through the 2nd grade books and move on to 3rd grade. (I’m expecting that she’ll do the 3rd grade books over the summer). These are an excellent tool to use as a supplement outside of the classroom!

  66. GDSouza

Kumon momI needed extra math and reading/writing practice for my kids in 3rd and 1st grade. These books are easy to understand, very systematic and kids love it. we take them along in the car even for short drives. It keeps the kids busy in the back seat. would recommend these to any parent that would like their child to excel academically. who doesn’t?? I’ve purhased about a dozen plus Kumon books from amazon already and intend to purchase many more.

Good for mathematical skills trainingI got this book for my 7yo twin daughters who are in Year 2. Overall this book matches their abilities quite well. As all KUMON books this one is rather repetitive — 30-40 similar problems per page. On the other hand, if your child can cope with this you can expect marked improvement in their mathematical skills by the time the book is finished. The essential part is to start early, so you child(ren) get used to idea of doing one set of problems per day. I started giving them books from KUMON since they turned 4, so by now doing homework is part of their life. Definitely it is worth offering some kind of reward once the book is completed. So, if your child can managed routine work for building the skills I definitely recommend this book.

Worth Every Penny! Practice Makes Perfect! These Kumon books are worth every penny. The learning by repetition / by using drills is not a inferior form of learning; it works! I have seen it work amazingly well for inattentive children and for children who were suffering from learned helplessness: children who learned to think they would never succeed. By allowing lots of opportunities to practice and succeed, with the Kumon books, I have seen several children completely change their attitude on previously “difficult” subjects. It is important to remember to start, most of the times, with books 1 or 2 grades below a child’s grade level, to allow the child to succeed 80-90% of the time, and only move to another grade level when the current grade level is mastered. Worth buying another copy of the same book if more practice needed (not worth erasing everything: would look dirty). Amazing resource. I wish they would sell online the books pass grade 6, and not only until grade 6, as currently (Nov 2013) available.

Grrreat buy! Achat super!!Great buy! My daughter already started using it and she loved it when she made a 50/50 on her first two pages! Delivery was sooo quick that I thought it was mistake! We received the book less than 24h after ordering it! Book can be used in all languages! Fantastique

It works and it’s affordableFor my 6yo son, it works well to develop simple and straightforward subtraction skills. It uses a step wise method so the child senses the pattern in subtractions.

E i risultati, passati i primi semplicissimi livelli, iniziano a mancare.

Good pratice to learn the basicsalthough not very complex and without covering the full math program my kids have at Grade 2, these books are great for praticing the basics, gaining confidence and velocity. I had them on grade 1 and know have them again on grade 2 with the same purpose.Very good to gain solid basic skills which i believe are essencial for future learning.

  143. Nia_921

We love Kumon!Love Kumon workbooks – my 6 year old just finished first grade and decided to keep his math fresh as well as prep him for the next grade. He does them well, 2 pages a day. The work progresses just right for him.

  144. Marsha

Great successThis work book is great it helps my kids get quick in doing math.

  145. Delapaz

My daughter is moving right alongShe was beginning to say and believe she is just “bad at match”. She shouldn’t be; she showed at lot of aptitude when she was 3. But 20-30 minutes a night with this and she is progressing very rapidly. Multiplication is next!

  146. Gina

Thanks!I look forward to using the book in the near future to help my niece better understand her subtraction and also utilize the knowledge within it. Thanks for sending it to me!

  147. snarkysnail

Great for extra practiceMy kindergartener and my 2nd grader uses these books all summer long. Unfortunately, grade school is pretty competitive, and to keep up their skills over the summer I get them these books to practice what they learned over the school year.

  148. user

Beginner bookGood for starters and hope it had more pages

  149. Juliet

Great resourceMy 1st grader performs at a higher level than her peers, and the homework she gets from school takes her less than 5 minutes to complete. I use the Kumon workbooks to give her the extra practice and challenge she needs.

Great toolOur child’s skills in math grew in leaps and bounds with Kumon workbooks focused on addition and subtraction. We had him in tutoring for a few months, stopped, and ordered these workbooks. Best decision we made.

Not receivedI haven’t received my shipment yet. Don’t know if I will getting it. It’s over 2 months i am very disappointed.

  187. allrandom32

good worksheetsFor anyone familiar with the kumon system. This is a good workbook to help reinforce basic subtraction. The only downer is the quantity of questions in the workbook – the standard kumon sets contain many more questions.

  188. Patricia L.

PerfectPerfect for keeping your child’s skills up over the summer or when on break. The additional work helps them to sharpen their skills as well. I believe the book is right on target with what our child is learning in class at the moment.

Great value, will purchase againMy son was in Kumon for 2 years, I was thrilled to find Kumon workbooks on Amazon, brought a whole bunch of grade 2 & 3 workbooks… ha ha at least 300 dollars saving each month with same results.
