Great GuidanceEvery summer I buy workbooks for my two boys. This year I chose Kumon, I purchase the whole collection of Grade 4 for my son going into 4th grade and the whole collection of Grade 3 (thinking Grade 2 would be too easy) for my son going into 2nd grade. Later on I found that my younger son had difficulties in some areas in Grade 3 so I bought Grade 2.This has been a great guidance for my kids and I. The books helped my kids learn step by step and I really do see improvements. Its great for me, I simply use the answer sheet to correct and it helps me find out what their weaknesses are. Overall I really like Kumon workbooks compare to previous companies that I have purchased because I do see improvements. Next year I will purchase Kumon again.

Kumon Without the Daily GrindIf your kid has been to Kumon, you know what is involved – yes, the daily grind for the kid and the parents. If you like that grind (each of the Kumon franchise will tell you how essential it is) then of course you do not have to buy this book. However, for rest of us, who questions that grind, this is an easier way to get the juice of the course but without the endless repetitions – at a fraction of the cost. The problems are not same as what a Kumon franchise offers. But that really did not matter. All problems are very nicely created. The difficulty level progresses through the course. And you can always go back to a previous level if you need to. I suggest you do not let your kid to mark the book to make this last part easier. The price of the book is right. However, I wish the book should have been thicker with more problems – of course a 80 page book cannot be sufficient for the entire year even if the price goes up a bit.

Excellent Book for 4th gradersI bought this book for my fourth grader to help her understand the fundamentals of using multiplication and division in everyday life. This book helper her a lot! The chapters in this book let kids practice same type of problem multiple times. This helps them remember the patterns of solving problems of different type. The other benefit of this book is that a chapter with a certain type of multiplication problems is coupled with a chapter which helps solve inverted problems with division. I would recommend this book for anyone trying to help their kids understand how important multiplication and division concepts.

This book needs revised. Most of the word problems are just fine but there are literally more than a few stupid, stupid word problems…word problems that make you cock your head to the side and quizzically ask, “Why? Really? Why would the authors take an opportunity to make math relevant and write this ridiculously stupid problem?” I’ve told all my students that word problems are life. Any math we use in our lives has to be “word problems”. I teach them to “see” the problem before trying to figure out what operation(s) to use to solve it, so it is critical that they get the reinforcement that this is relevant to their lives. Being given stupidly ridiculous inane problems only reinforces how much they hate math and how unimportant it is for their lives. Nothing could be less true though. Get rid of those problems and this book is GREAT! Unfortunately, previewing all the worksheets and eliminating the inane ones prior to letting the kids work through is critical.

Excellent Word Problems for 4th gradeThis gives the boy I tutor a book to solve and write his math work in. It follows math standards and is great for Zoom . There is an answer key in the back.

ExcellentIm am helping a friends daugther study for the AZ Aims test. Not much information on the test is available nor study material. The makers of the test have three released exams, and thats all so, i was looking for a book with similar word type problems to study with. I figured out, the was having issues with certain keywords that changed the meaning of what was being asked. So with this workbook, I know had lots of word problems with similar style as the test. Well after doing a few problems in the book, the child finally started to see the trick question. The child finally passed the exam with ease after having failed it before being tutored. But with out the book it would have been difficult to write so many brand new questions.

Wonderful Easy and Fun Learning ProductGreat way for your child to spend time working math problems. Easy to read and understand. Answers in the back of book give step by step instructions on how they came to the answer. Would use this product again for the next grade level during the summerCBooker

A little easy for a 4th graderFor a word problems workbook, I would have expected problems that require more concept-level thinking (what operation is needed here?). The problems provide plenty of repeat practice for basic math functions, but there’s not much mix of types of problems in each lesson, so the student isn’t really required to do much critical thinking in figuring out what approach to use in solving the problem. Once the student solves the first problem or two, the rest of the problems are pretty predictable. I would prefer to have quicker math functions involved if it meant my daughter had to spend more time critically evaluating the path to the solution.

Great bookGood book for my child. He loves it. and we love how it goes from easy problems to hard problems

  13. teapot08

Great for practice with word problemsThis resource combines key math concepts with word problems. I would buy the next level when needed.

  14. Janelle Butler

It is perfect for “filling in the gaps” for my sonI have ordered all the books in the 3rd and 4th grade series…math and reading/writing. After I ordered 2 books, I was so impressed that I wanted them all. It is perfect for “filling in the gaps” for my son. He can work at his own pace and continue learning throughout the summer. We are going to continue with these books throughout the school year. I would highly recommend these books to any parent who wants to help their child make major improvements in reading and math.

  15. Shari

Nice books to teach and drill conceptsSo far I have liked all the Kumon books I have gotten for my son. I use them to supplement Singapore Math for homeschooling. I’ve used Grades 3 and 4. Will continue to buy…

  16. Jennifer Graetz

Word problems you dont need to readThere is no point in a word problem when you tell the student ahead of time that its a division problem. The majority of this book is division problems with a big heading “Division” on the top. Kids just find the numbers and divide the bigger number by the smaller number. A page or two is fine, but the majority of the sections should be mixed arithmetic word problems so that students have to read the problem, figure out what is going on, and determine which operation to use. To the publisher, consider a rewrite. To buyers, look elsewhere. Or just print some off the web. You cant get anything less useful.

a+ HelpMy grandson has some problems with reading and comprehension so we bought him this and it seems to be helping. Jon’s teacher suggested something of this nature..Jon likes to read so we think this will be a definite asset for his school work.

  25. Ed Miller

Book was OKThis book was OK. If you are just looking for word problems, this is fine. If you are looking for a well-structured book that has problems that focus one one skill, AND problems that are varying in approach, this may not be for you.

  26. m.a.b.

Helpful bookGreat little book – helps me so I can help the youngsters.

  27. e-shopper

my daughter loves it.It’s a very good book, my daughter likes it much, she has finished the book in a week by self without any help. My daughter will enter 4th grade after summer. Probably it is little too easy for 4th grade.

  28. Joni R.

Challenging but GoodThis book arrived in great condition and although it may be a bit challenging for kids who hate doing word problems, it will help teach the necessary skills to master the concept.

Fantastic Books!I started out with Kinder Kumon books and have moved up. I find they are the best, but also Spectrum books are great! Laid out nicely and flow with the child in mind.

Just what I was looking for! Will write a second review later; but, just wanted to let parents/readers know that I browsed through the book and it looks great. My daughter did 2 pages of it and the questions in books are already picking her brain!!! It is less boring (better than plain old additions/substractions/multiplication/division exercise rut)! She loves to check on the net to see how many meters are in a kilometer to solve the problems in the book. So far so good; keeping my fingers crossed.

Though the way of explaining was good. The problems were too easy for fourth grader …i bought this series of books last year for my fourth grader.Though the way of explaining was good. The problems were too easy for fourth grader and they don’t have to use any critical thinking to solve the problems. So my main mission was to teach her some tough problems or develop her brain in competitive way but she was like, its too easy and repetitive.

  64. Jim

Excellent! This is an excellent supplement to my child’s education. The school she goes to has gone so woke and is focused on critical race theory that they are dismissing proper education such as math so I cannot rely on public wokeducation so use this book

  65. Maverick

Very good practice for kid to convert word problem to math question. My kids have no trouble to do the pure math calculation, but he had trouble to understand word problems and convert them into math model. I needed some material that can train him this skill. I purchased this, and ask him do a page each days. He almost finished the book now, and I can see his improvement. He now had less issue to understand the word problem, and not also be disturbed by the noise in the word questions.

Try this, instead of going to Kumon school. Our daughter started to go Kumon school, just to find out that all they did was giving her pages from Kumon Workbooks. So we just purchased set of books from Amazon and started studying at home. The books are very well designed, so kids can improve their skills gradually.

  72. Sadaf Usman

I don’t reccomendI have bought this for my daughter it’s good many word problems are there but one thing I dont like it that in one chapter all the questions are of same pattern and there is an explanation with first question so my daughter dont really read the question she just do the same thing with different figures what I wanted was kids should read and understand the question and then solve it every time unfortunately this is not the case

A very good barometer to measure your child’s comprehension of the subject …Can’t underestimate the importance of having standards. These products provide a baseline to see as to whether or not your child is on the right track. Unfortunately, most schools don’t track this very carefully anymore. A very good barometer to measure your child’s comprehension of the subject matter.
