Reading Level Adjust by gradeWe brought this series from Grade 1 – 5. It’s good to introduce reading comprehension to kids, though it might be too easy for actual grade. I think it’s good for 2 grades down. Like a third grader for Grade 5 reading, otherwise it’s kind of easy. My Pre-K kid just finished the Grade 1.

I’ve seen results!I really like these workbooks. We have used this series of work texts for a few years. My daughter has really taken to them- the lessons are not too long, nor too drab, but they are challenging. They do use stories for the child that are not too juvenile, which I really appreciate. The 8 year old that uses these was a late reader, but this year alone has rocked to 5th grade reading thanks in part due to these workbooks. I’m pleased with them! To note: Kumon is huge in Japan where we live- with centers filled with children after school, so they are expert in the field of elementary education from my observations. When in a local school we observed they use these workbooks (in their native language) for the students there- and it is common knowledge that education in Japan is done well.

Great Workbook with Interesting Stories.We enjoy the Kumon Reading Workbooks. Your child read a short story and then answers several questions about them. It tells you how many points each question is worth and provides the answers so grading them is easy.My only complaint would be that, in the questions they ask they are looking for very word specific answers from the story and not to see if your child understood the general idea of the story. It was frustrating at times even for me when I was helping them to have to re-read the whole story to find the exact wording they were looking for. For that reason, I prefer Abekas Read and Think (earlier grades) and Read and Comprehend (later grades).But the stories were interesting and held my children’s attention, and I plan to keep using the Kumon Reading Workbooks as supplemental material.

More like 4th grade mathBought this for more son to work on over the summer to prepare him for 5th grade. After the first 5 lessons, he says it’s basically what he learned in 4th grade and it’s pretty easy. I’m hoping it will get tougher as he goes deeper into the lessons. Nice with room to improveWe tried the books from Kumon whenever possible. Kumon is the leading educator system that benefits students of different grade levels for years. This is another nice book that is well organized and easy to follow. However kids have different reading levels so it may not fit your 5th graders. My daughter has her online training and weekly test at Beestar. Her reading level is higher than average kids. I would expect Kumon to have more books for 5th grade for different level of kids. Or they should post more information so that we pick the right book. Overall, we love Kumon series in different subjects. It’s small book and not expensive. I hope Kumon publishes more volumes with different intensity for each grade level. Go Kumon!
