I could do without the “environmental propaganda” in some of the exercises. I am a homeschooling mom of four, and I use this book for my eldest daughter who is 9.

The front half of the book is good for going over grammatical conceptsThe front half of the book is good for going over grammatical concepts, which 6th graders don’t get enough of at school anymore. However, the explanations for these concepts can be confusing at times. The latter half focuses on essay writing. Some of the activities are good, but most lessons are dull and repetitive.

I like Kumon seriesI always like Kumon series. Even though the recommended age may not be accurate as each child is different. Overall this book delivers what it intends.

Far Left/Liberal NarrativesWe have used many Kumon Math Books which have been helpful for that subject. However, these Writing Books like the Grade 6 one that say they are to “State Standards” are blatantly biased to the far left/liberals. MOST of the writing prompts are about having more “Minority” representation, Humans causing Global Warming, Girls being allowed into Boys Sports, Human Pollution, etc. If you want to make a political platform out of these, then where is representation from the far right/conservatives? There are NONE in case you couldn’t guess…ALL far left/liberal ideology. Sad to see from Kumon, but I guess this is coming from the “State Standards” that we the people need to abolish. Personally, there are many non-divisive prompts children can learn from that could be used but unfortunately they have chosen NOT to use them. Don’t let BIG GOVERNMENT silence us and indoctrinate your children!

Does not teachThis book doesn’t teach how to write. For instance, it instructs student to write a topic sentence but doesn’t tell the student what makes a good topic sentence. More of a time waster than an instructional writing curriculum.

very good writing practiceI believe writing is a very important skill for every child, so I have always been trying to improve my son’s writing skills. After my son finished the grade 5 Kumon writing workbook, he really needed advanced writing practice. This workbook with excellent prompts came as a great help. It has inviting prompts for sixth graders. My son really likes the prompts. It is a workbook of imaginative situations and questions that got my son using his brain to come up with wildly creative ideas when he began to put pen to paper. It has given my son a chance to grow his creativity and imagination, and it made writing much more exciting for him. I’m glad I bought another good Kumon writing workbook for my son.For more practice, we simply used the online writing exercises on the Beestar website. The worksheets are well-designed and have interesting real-life questions for your child to practice. If you are like me, you will be surprised that kids nowadays are pretty quick and smart in online learning.

Very good book!I recommend every workbook and anything from Kumon. Their books are great, short and clear explanations that explain enough without wasting the child’s time, clear and accurate assessment of the student’s work through a point system in the books, plus there are answers and some solutions that help a lot. So far, I haven’t come across Kumon’s bad workbooks, although I’ve bought textbooks from almost every subject they offer. They are really grеat!!! Especially this book for grades 6-8 for text math problems, for Algebra and Geometry, which covers everything the children maybe missed and the children progress very quickly to a higher grade that they has not yet reached. I am very impressed ! I rarely have such opinions about any book! In the beginning it is difficult for the child with Kumon’s books and they spend more time even for one lesson, but later the child begins to understand more and more and becomes pleasant and begins to become more independent if they don’t stop perseverance in the practice of Kumon’s books.

The book is good but quite challengingThis workbook is effective in helping an 6th grader improve their English abilities. I bought this for my kid who’s currently getting homeschooled. The workbook includes a lot of challenging words which can increase their vocabulary. I find that it is difficult for him and he can’t do the exercises himself.

beware the errorsDon’t buy if you don’t know your grammar and spelling, homeschooling parents. I found two glaring errors in the first few lessons. Not impressed.

American English and Punctuation can pose problems for UK studentsBeware of the use of American English and punctuation, such as the following examples: realtor (page 11), estate agent in UK; and the Havard/Oxford comma before the last “and” in a list (page 2). Is any UK examiner going to deduct marks if a British student has used these Americanisms? Possibly. A parent or school teacher will have to highlight and explain these differences between US and UK English.
