Felt a little deceived by the reviewsI bought this book solely on the reviews – This book DOES NOT teach addition. I was under the impression this was a step by step process into simple addition – it is not. This book contains a couple of pages of sequencing and dot-to-dot, then it transitions into pages upon pages of practice worksheets. These worksheets are your everyday run-of-the-mill type sheets – rows and columns full of simple addition problems. This is great if your child understands the basic concept of addition, but the method in this book caused confusion for my child. I felt as though a concept was missing – We couldn’t get through page 11, which is the concept of adding 1.There are other companies that provide a much better way of presenting addition for FIRST TIMERS (which had a positive response), and I will continue use those resources. I will continue to use this book as a supplement once she understands the foundational concepts of addition, but this particular book is not part of my main curriculum.Side note: I followed the Kumon books in this series step-by-step.

Recommended for children between the ages of 5 and 7Recommended for children between the ages of 5 and 7, Grow to Know: Addition from Kumon provides a step-by-step workbook that helps children learn to add the numbers 1 through 9. The workbook is extremely basic but offers plenty of additional addition practice. My daughter completed two pages at a time.

The media could not be loaded.

Good for repetitive learning of additionMy daughter just got into Grade 1 and I needed something to help her thorough with addition. Kumon exercises increase in difficulty incrementally and very systematically. Sometimes, she does feel bored, but I add other subjects and activities, and overall I am very happy that it served the purpose, that of establishing her thoroughly in addition of numbers between 0 and 30. Towards the end, she became very quick at recognizing certain combinations of numbers and did not need to compute them in her mind anymore. I’m overall very happy with the purchase. Quality of book, print and paper etc are excellent.

it’s great at a secondary/backup sourceIts a great backup resource not so much as a primary resource. I find there aren’t enough repetition before moving to the next level and prefer the addition and subtraction for grade 1 books for a more thorough step by step option

But this is great to build confidence in basic additionConfidence boosting book. I am a fan of the step by step progression with Kumon, but also use wider methods for teaching numeracy, ie Numicon and problem solving activities. But this is great to build confidence in basic addition.
