Best of the writing word books in this seriesI just brought this book for my 7 yr old that is building his skills on writing sentences independently. We also own the
My Book of Writing Words: Learning about Consonants and Vowels (Kumon Workbooks)
and
My Book of Simple Sentences: Learning about Nouns and Verbs (Kumon Workbooks)
. Although this book is recommended after the other two, I am actually going to use this book first, then the “Writing Words”, and then the simple sentences. The nouns in this book are a mixture of long and short vowels, but one syllable words. It also contains a lot of the helper adjective words that are in the Dolch list (eg. big, little, short, long, etc). The “Writing Words” book contains a lot of blend sound words, but no helper words or sentences. The simple sentences book has only nouns and verbs in the sentences, but the nouns are more complex: eg. kangaroo. I give all three books 5 stars. I just disagree with the order that Kumon recommends.

Very helpfulI pulled my son out of public school half way through the year because he was getting lost in the system. He is capable of everything at his level and even advanced in some things, but he was getting further and further behind. One of the worst issues was his handwriting. It was totally illegible… But he wasn’t getting much instruction or help. These books are fantastic for really simple and easy to understand practice. 2 months of homeschool and we can read his writing. I highly recommend these books.

Nice for writing practiceThe Kumon books are perfect for my Kindergarten son who knows how to write but needs writing practice because his fine motor skills are still developing. The lessons are short (only 2 pages) but don’t “overdo it. They have really helped improve his writing. Be sure you purchase the books in order because they gradually get “harder.” I believe this is the final level of the writing series, preceded by My Book of Simple Sentences. It is hard to tell on the amazon website the order in which they progress. Even hard to tell on the Kumon website!

for my 5 yr old to help supplement what he was learning in school about writing sentences. It was exactly what I needed. It was easy to use, and simple enough for a child to follow along. It helped build his confidence, which is exactly what we needed. When it comes to making the selection on which book to use, I recommend you go with your child’s abilities instead of the recommended age for the book.

Great learning tool.This is a great learning and practicing book. It has just the right amount of difficulty for the grade level chosen. What is great about it also is that it is easy to find parallel subjects to whatever your child is learning in school..Comes with answer key that allows you to go back and review wrong answers. The stories for the reading comprehension questions are good too.

this book is good for practicing sentences.I bought this Kumon book for my 5-year old twins to practice their sentences. One disappointment is that it does not have rip-out pages, but you might not want that anyway. Another disappointment is that the spacing for practicing writing is not uniform in size… some pages have nice large lines to write in, others have smaller areas to write, which are really a little too small for this age to work with. Otherwise, the book is good.

They are fun and help to break down concepts to more manageable bites of understanding. A sentence copying book onlyParents need to be aware that this book is strictly copying very simple sentences and nothing else. Since this book is labeled for ages 6-8, I thought that this book would teach students to build more complex sentences by learning to add adjectives and fancier predicates in a step by step way. It’s not even great for handwriting practice because the lines are small and of differing sizes. What a disappointment.

Kumon momI needed extra math and reading/writing practice for my kids in 3rd and 1st grade. These books are easy to understand, very systematic and kids love it. we take them along in the car even for short drives. It keeps the kids busy in the back seat. would recommend these to any parent that would like their child to excel academically. who doesn’t?? I’ve purhased about a dozen plus Kumon books from amazon already and intend to purchase many more.
