Kumon advocate for lifeLove these books! I am a former Kumon student and instructor assistant. I buy these Kumon books for my friends to introduce and help them understand the Kumon way. The best time to start Kumon is at the earliest age possible. These books are great supplements to introduce your kid(s) to skills. However, based on a few other reviews, these books does not replace the Kumon program. If you are looking for the worksheet curriculum that involves repetition, self-learning and mastery you need to call/email your local Kumon center and enroll in the program.

it’s a good time killer when they are waiting for their food …I’m not a fan of kids playing with electronics 24/7…..so instead of taking out a tablet or phone for my kids to play with when they are at a restaurant, I give these kumon books to him to play and work through when we eat out…..it’s a good time killer when they are waiting for their food to come or when they finished their food but the “boring chatty adults aren’t done with their meals or conversation”……..

Great book to work on reasoning skillsThis has been a great workbook for my almost five year old. In the beginning I thought it was way too simple, but a few pages later you realize that it is building up in difficulty. There are a variety of questions (e.g find the match, find the missing element), and they repeat the question types just enough to let the child practice without getting repetitive. I recommend doing this with your child and encouraging her/him to not just pick the right answer but talk through the reasoning behind why each choice may or may not make sense.

Nice book!Good book for my kids. This book is beautifully printed and interesting, suitable for me and my children to share a good time together.

ExcellentIt’s very good workbook for kids. Very colorful, educational and easy to understand. It is also a good alternative instead of gadgets.

Excellent activities to challenge young mindsMy 4 year old absolutely loved this book! Excellent workbook to learn about logic from patterns to comparison to inference, and so much more! Highly recommend this book!
Portland Mom –
Great pictures and quality paperPurchased for kindergarten prep. However, I was disappointed in the amount and variety of the activities. Each page has (counting front and back) has a maximum of four excerses, with a total of 36 pages. Child barely gets any real practice in with so little to do. Each page took less than a minute to complete. For $8 it was not worth it.

Happy PurchaseExcellent book. I bought it for my 4 yr old to use over the summer. She needed a little help with directions when worksheets moved to a new concept, but she caught on quickly and moved through the book on her own. Very pleased.

Highly Recommend!!I highly recommend this book for any preschooler! I was unsure of this workbook when I purchased it because I had never seen a book like this before and wasn’t sure how my 3 year old was going to like it. Out of all of his workbooks that I have for him, this has quickly become his favorite. I love it too as it is developing his problem solving skills.

Creative science bookLoved this. She liked it so much my 4 year old finished this book in a couple of weeks. Love the easy learning and interactive we (parents) had to do. Just supported her passions of animals and outdoors adventures.
Thinking mom –
Ethnocentric; inaccurate; encourages thinking inside the boxAlthough there were certainly some exercises in this book that encouraged reasoning, many of them did not teach what I would consider logic, but rather they seemed to encourage finding a right answer. This is actually not something I feel a need to teach my child at this time–she will get plenty of that in school. I would rather teach her to think critically at this age. For example, in the pattern recognition section, there are actually multiple correct answers to most of the patterns. Teaching children that there is one correct answer in these types of exercises can lead to implicit bias, something I have to work very to get my sophomore and junior level university students to understand. The think they “know” the right answer before conducting an experiment to test an hypothesis (in part because the idea of a single right answer has been pounded into them from an early age!). Second, there were multiple inaccuracies in the book, such as an inaccurate representation of a peacock chick (which my 3 year old quickly pointed out). Additionally, neither my child nor I understood what the book was getting at with the real/pretend pages. Children are expected to say that a football player throwing a toaster, a football player riding a bike, two girls carrying a rowing scull (which is oddly chopped in half?) and a boy drumming on a pumpkin are all pretend. I think Kumon needs to look up the definition of pretend. Each of these things can and DO happen, so by definition are not pretend. We drummed on pumpkins in music class. Two women can easily carry a rowing scull. A football player could ride a bike. Finally, I found it to be ethnocentric. For example, there are multiple references to hot dogs, football, televisions, and the like.

A little too easy for 4yr old.It was a little too easy for my PreSchooler. My 4yr old finished the whole book in under 2hours. It was good practice and a definite confidence builder. The Paper is thick and great quality art. He had fun and kept him busy. We really like the Kumon series.

My Son Enjoys it, So its a Win.It’s fun and captivating but a little easy for my (average) 4 year old son. Still he enjoys it and I would recommend it for others who are looking for activities that get little minds thinking and keep them busy. He enjoys it.

Not badThe concept is good but the book has more pictures that activities. My 4 yr old finished it in 2 days ..

Worth the priceI ordered this and then realized that similar sized books are half the price. I tried to cancel my order but it was too late. When it arrived, I opened the box, and I was surprised to find that it’s probably worth the price. The activities are more fun than competing books. I don’t have to bribe my son to do these (YMMV). The colors are more vibrant, the pages are thicker, and they use more fun examples.

👍Good book but could have been priced a little lower

Excellent conceptsThis is an exceptional book. I’ve been in education for over a decade, and I was very pleased with it. It says preK and up, and it definitely isn’t too easy for a K or 1st kid. I would buy one for every kindergarten teacher if I could.

Awesome learning toolOur son who’s 4 loves these workbooks. I bought these for him to work through during the summer. I will have to buy more bc he has already went through them and he has 2 more weeks of school.

I have a 5-year old and this was terrific for himI have a 5-year old and this was terrific for him. Some of the problems really required him to think. Even I had to concentrate on a few of them. Useful supplement to preschool. The problems are playful and age appropriate but not necessarily the types of problems he encounters in school.

Ele aprendeu brincando.

SimpleThis book was not challenging for my 4 year old. It is pre-K which is true to our case, my child is not in K yet. I was hoping to find a book that gave her an opportunity to think more. But I suppose it is good material to pass time for her without much supervision.

The best in the series so far.I have bought two of these books for my twin 5yo daughters. I think they of just right complexity for this age group (bear in mind that all children are different). What I like the most that, unlike in some other books from KUMON series, there is a good variety of tasks of progressing complexity. On average I think there are four double-sided pages per task type. It starts with really easy problems, like finding the match between roughly pixelized image and its original (and by the end it requires some reasoning to find the original). Then it progresses to some challenging problem like finding the match after rotating the original picture.Overall this book is a great success. I find it helpful to use it together with more ‘boring’ books from KUMON series, like addition or subtraction — after doing repetitive math problem I ask my daughters to do ‘easy’ and completely different problem from this workbook.

Great contentReceived this morning and my son loves it. Thought it would be a little thicker in the reflection of the price, but overall we are happy with it.
Rahul S –
Good book but very expensive!!Buy it if you can afford it, all Kumon series are quite expensive. Rest similar exercises you can find in general stationary shop books as well. But yes, u can try one and then decide as some of the stuff might be different. Logical thinking versions are good too.
Yuan Liu –
Good!Too easy for my 4yr old, but I understand she enjoyed it!

Alberta Strong –
Good bookMy daughter is 3 and she enjoys this book. She like to help the animals find their parents.
Aby –
A good book to start off logical problemsMy 5 year old loved working on the logical problems in this book. It’s pretty basic at kindergarten level. As all kumon books, the quality of the paper and print is excellent. I wish there were more problems to solve as sometimes there’s excessive pictures. But that’s why my son likes it in the first place

Good learning tool. The 3.9 yr old son loved the activity book and we finished it in less than a month. Helps develop congnitive skills of toddlers and acts as a homeschooling device in days where homework is not mandatory and guidance in terms of right approach to learning very important.
