Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain

(137 customer reviews)

Rejuvenate your brain with simple calculation exercises.

Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain was a number-one bestseller in Japan, even outperforming the Harry Potter books at one time. And now, after selling over a million copies and inspiring countless copycats in its home country, this revolutionary title is available in an English-language edition!

Designed especially for readers who want to keep their minds sharp and stave off the mental effects of aging, this book presents a complete 60 day program to build a better brain. The program consists of a daily worksheet of simple mathematical calculations that takes less than five minutes to complete. Each week, readers take a short pre-frontal cortex evaluation test to measure their progress.

The world has long recognized that physical exercise helps maintain a healthy, well-working body. Now it’s time to acknowledge that our brains need a regular work-out too! Train your Brain 60 Days to a Better Brain is your brain’s best friend!

Simple calculation boosts your brain!

The theory behind Train Your Brain is based on the work of Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, a prominent Japanese neurological researcher. He originally set out to prove that video games provided healthy stimulation for our brains. Instead Dr. Kawashima discovered, much to his surprise, that the two best methods for activating the brain were performing simple mathematical calculations and reading aloud.

His experiments using MRI technology showed that these simple activities increased blood flow and neural connections to the widest areas of the human brain. Amazing! Dr. Kawashima then used these findings to develop a complete adult learning program designed to build a stronger brain.

Today, thousands of adults spend just minutes a day performing simple mathematical and verbal exercises designed to keep their minds sharp, improve their memories and stave off the mental effects of aging. If you want to stay young at heart, and sharp mentally, give Train Your Brain a try!

Simple, Fun, EffectiveJust completed the sixty day program in this workbook. My personal experience, as a nearly 56 year-old man, is that it works. The changes have been subtle, to the best of my awareness, but definite. I’ve found my mind sharper, with an enhanced sense of short-term recall. I’ll be continuing the exercises from the beginning of the book indefinitely. As with anything, don’t expect miracles overnight. No new runner does 26.2 miles on their first day. They work up to it. I’m therefore hopeful and expectant that my progress will continue with time. And speaking of time: it takes only a couple of minutes per day to complete the main exercises (less for me, actually). I compete with myself, tracking my performance day after day. It’s fun, obviously an important factor in sticking to a routine. If you’re experiencing any slip in brain function, or simply want to sharpen that organ further, this book is certainly worth a try.

a grewt coolection of useful brain excerceiseaThis very reasonably priced book has numerous simple brain exercises that reportedly can increase your overall brain functioning. I enjoy doing them and have reason to believe that they are actually effective…worth trying…

I just wanted to learn how to do the triangle math puzzleI returned the book. It turned out to be page after page of number problems. I have the Nintendo game and it’s a lot of fun to use. There are more games and puzzles. One puzzle is triangle math. I cannot figure out what is expected of me. The instructions are no help. The internet is no help. Help!

it’s working for me…i’m absolutely remembering more, and feel sharper. the log in the back shows me that i’m remembering between 4 and 5 words more on the word test, and i’m getting faster at all the exercises. i’m almost a whiz at dinner calculating the tip. new ground for me!i have another two weeks left in the book – and i’ll probably buy another. overall – highly recommended.

  27. Z. Kaufman

Do Not Buy This Book – Use kids homework instead.I bought this book because I read somewhere that author (Dr. Ryuta Kawashima) was heading research studies that showed that your brain functions degrade slower if you ride a motorcycle daily. “Now this guy is on to something” I thought to myself. So I bought his book but I must say – Do not buy this book. You are better off doing the math problems in your 3rd graders math homework because that is basically what this “book” is… its pages and pages of 3rd grade level math problems (single digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division e.g. 6×3 or 9-4).Page 4 of the book is the ‘Table of Contents’. Pages 5 to 11 are some short descriptions, mostly involving the differences between left brain-right brain stuff, kinda interseting, but very little content. THEN PAGES 12 to 156 ARE ALL MATH PROBLEMS, the end! Exactly the kind of math sheets you had in your elementary school Math workbook. Apparently your supposed to do one of these worksheets every few days, booooring. While the math problems may “Train Your Brain” this book is very slim on content.

  28. jdpods

I’ll save you money…Do two pages of simple fourth grade mathematical equations once a day as fast as you can. That is the book. I thought there was going to be more theory invovled. I can not write of the benefits claimed, for I have not had the book for long enough.

  29. Arline Curtiss

Wonderful Book for EldersI’m sorry I didn’t run across this book two years ago when it first came out. I’m a board-certified cognitive therapist and although my expertise is in depression where I use exercises to re-wire the brain out of depressive episodes and which inspired my own book BRAINSWITCH OUT OF DEPRESSION, this book is wonderful for maintaining an already healthy brain and mind and can be helpful to anybody.

  30. The Floridian

It really helps, i think it’s great! When i first bought this book, i was in need for something to help me about my forgetfulness and memory loss. Meaning: I found that i have not been able to memorize a license plate of a car that just drove by for even more then 15 secs! I felt pretty pathetic. So i researched the web and choose this book here. Let me tell you, it’s fun to use, i think, and it works!

  31. Mary L. Lariviere

Just what I wanted!!Exactly the book I was looking for. And, as usual, Amazon delivers things quickly!! That is why most people with APO and FPO addresses prefer to order from Amazon!

  32. Frank Ch. Eigler

yawnIt seems as if the whole book was just printed fromone or two spreadsheets, just generating randomsimple arithmetic questions. Save your money andfind something online.

  33. Barbara Ann Carfora

As PromisedI ordered this book at the last minute as a Christmas gift. It arrived as quickly as was promised and in excellent condition. The provider maintained e-mail contact from beginning to end. Thank you!

  34. Miyamoto Musashi

Not recomendThis is one of typical books published by Kumon. Kumon has many learning centers for kids in USA, and my son attended one of them. But I canot recomend the present method since they just rip off money from parents. Many assitants at such centers are not qualified for teaching at all. Students cannot ask any complicated questions for most of cases.I can find the similar pattern of the way of making money in this book.I know, this book might help some of people who have a really decaying brain. I think this is a book for at least 70 or 80 years old who start to show a sign of decrepit behaviors. Many people can make such contents by using PC by themselves.

  35. Yaeko Masuchi

Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better BrainThis book is so practical and explain so well how our brain get older without using. The worksheet is enjoyable.

  36. Codon

A well intentioned brief overview of LearningI had good learning reading this book. I wished that the facts were more descriptive and included research on:- effect on brain of our heavily distracted lives these days where mobile phones reign our thoughts and give us an illusion of learning.- how does playing chess for very long duration effect our brain.- how does sex effect our brain.- what’s actually happening in/to your brain when you are “in the zone” for hours.- Newton and many intellectuals are known (rumored) to have indulged in studies for 2 days straight. Can your brain help do that? What happens to brain during that in-zone period and what happens when you stop, say, after 2 days of continuously being in-zone?

  37. Arihant.Sasank

Repeat what you had readIm going through this book. After reading more than half of the book , I thought to share it with you. I recommend this book to students, professional teachers and academician’s. Author gives us deep insight into the functioning of the brain, what and how exactly does learning happens inside the brain were discussed in elite fashion. An overall outlook in to memorization techniques were also recommended. He also out busted many myths that were engulfed around learning patterns. Something scientific is always good to read and spread.

  38. Amazon Customer

works wellDr. Kawashima has a good thing going with this book. If one truly follow it on a daily basis it will definitely help keep up the brain energy and memory. Only regret is that he has had it published now for sometime with no additional books in site. Dr. Kawashima: Please start working on a sequel.

  39. Vipin Gupta

Best book to learn about brain function and reactionFor me this is tge best book to know every about brain and its working and reaction during different conditions and instances. Only part that don’t justify the book is it’s title because it says train your brain but it is not about but more of about it’s function and working of it. Yes it help to train your brain but in different manner it provides you the information of brain working and from using that information you can train your accordingly

  40. AN

A valuable tool if used regularlyThis is a good book and well within the ability of any adult with a basic educated. However, I find that I was unable to keep it going on a regular basis, so kept missing days…and maybe that is why I haven’t been able to see any improvement in my performance over the last few months.Never the less, it is easy and enjoyable, I even got my husband and grown up son to have a go at doing the pretraining tests…and they were surprised at the outcome. It is a worth buying just to feel you are doing something to help that failing memory and lazy brain cells.

Misleading titleMisleading title. Disappointed. No doubt the author has done a lot of research on brain but the book isn’t only about ways of training the brain. It’s about the parts of brain and it’s reaction during different circumstances and a few basic tips on training. I expected more because of the title. Things I learnt from the book : Before you start studying, do a bit of simple mathematics and while studying, understand what you’re studying, study over and over again. Also, reading aloud helps in activating the brain; thus helping in memorization. You can listen to plain music while you study. Rest of the book isn’t that much helpful.

  43. Aditya Singh

Nothing NewIf you are seeking a book which enlists methods to augment your cognitive skills and increase your intelligence then this is NOT it.It just elaborates on various phenomena of the brain (which, if you are a student of science, must have already known) and certain results of experiments on the brain. There is very little to learn something new from this.

  44. Sue McLeod

A good buy. This has helped my husband after a stroke. It takes some commitment to complete every day, but it does help the brain cognition.

  45. prakashkumar

Native language education is goodIts not a book about memory power improvement or speed reading. This is a book based on scientific experimentation and facts. The author is a neuro scientist. He put forward his findings that he has observed by practical brain tests like MRI . He analyse which part of brain is activated in humans under various circumstances. How the brain functions to our native language and what difference it makes while studying in a foreign language. One of his conclusion is ” studying our native language will improve our mathematical, analytical and other abilities”. Worth reading.

  46. JP

Excellent bookExcellent book.. It’s book for all ages from 9 to 90… Worth a read.. The author explains a complex and a boring subject not dwelling too much in biology or anatomy of brain… Though the important points to extract from this petite book is very less, it will set a stage for further reading of u r interested to read more on the same topic…Kudos to the authorP.SNever knew it’s a colored edition till I opened the package.. The book quality is also very good…thanks to the publishers

Great Book and purchase experience. But for the past two times, once the payment clears from my bank, I get a mail saying that your payment has failed and I see the money already gone from my account. This is second time time it is happened I money got back into the account after a few days, but you are in Limbo on what happened. So money should be returned immediately. and dont offer net banking in your list of payments.I am concerned about shopping on Amazon.co.inThanksShanker

like what happens when you study a hard problemIt’s okay .. normal brain concepts are described here, like what happens when you study a hard problem ,how the metabolic activty of the brain changes. It’s not a pro book , without any specialised techniques, but some trivial concepts are there indeed, i expected it to be much detailed for training the mind. Go for it if you want to know the mind concepts etc!

  54. Ms. P. M. French

Keeping the little grey cells active!I am finding this a fascinating book. It is fun to work at and is certainly good for the brain with the memory exercises. The naming of the colours makes me laugh as it is instinctive to read the word, eg red, blue, yellow or green rather than say the colour! I am enjoying the varied arithmetic questions, as I was always good at those at school. A great book.

  55. Vaibhav

Its a fantastic bookIts a fantastic book, I could read only few pages of it. But its worth buying n reading… Sometimes its complicated since it provides a detail inside of your brain n its component..but its knowledge at the end of a day..

The book is nice and useful but rather too graphic and technicalThe book is nice and useful but rather too graphic and technical. Ideally, what one looks for is simple language and straight forward exercises for simulation of brain to keep it agile. Good attempt though.
